CHARLOTTE – A woman is warning others to be careful where they use their credit and debit cards after her information was stolen and used multiple times.
Channel 9’s Erica Jackson spoke with her victim about how she found a way to figure out who she believes is the culprit.
New York native Ashley Howatt said she expects kindness and generosity from her neighbors in Charlotte.
“Of course, down here, you expect everyone to be super nice and definitely different from New York,” Howatt explained.
But when Hwat noticed fraudulent activity on her debit card, red flags went off in her head.
“I saw three charges on my account. It was Domino’s. I believe it was called Evolution Nail Salon in Charlotte. And then there was a Disney.com store,” Howatt said.

Howatt said she spoke with a Disney employee at the store who told her the shipping address for the order was the same address as a small business in Charlotte.
A business she went to for beauty services.
“Same building, same suite number. And I remember that suite number specifically because I had trouble trying to find her suite in that building. When I made the appointment she had me do it through her website and I had to deposit $15. I had to use my card and it was a card that was charged three times,” Howat explained.
Howat hopes her experience will warn others to be more careful.
“If you don’t find any information, just do more research. Just don’t go to them,” said Hawat
Hwat said the bank froze her account, refunded her money and gave her a new debit card.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said a suspect has been identified in the case, but no one has been arrested or charged.
