Maternal home visits, mental health bills come first at home

House Ways and Means Committee today They voted A full bipartisan bill (HR8876) would reauthorize the federal Maternal, Infant, and Preschool Home Visiting Program and double annual funding for the program to $800 million over five years. The committee passed five packages of mental health bills. Among other provisions, the bills include:
• Increase Medicare outpatient mental health treatment options and direct the Secretary of Health and Human Services to reform the Medicare payment system for inpatient psychiatric facilities.
• Adding marriage and family therapists and mental health counselors as Medicare providers; remove regulatory barriers that prevent hospitals from offering health benefits to all physicians; And directed the administration to consider ways to increase access to stimulant addiction treatment.
• No cost sharing requires coverage of forensic medical tests.
• They are looking for private health plans to provide more information about their mental health benefits.
• Review their health plans for mental health network eligibility and require them to provide machine-readable files documenting their mental health and substance use disorder benefits.
