Schatz, Murkowski: Senate confirms Roselyn Tso as Indian Health Service director
WASHINGTON – Today, United States Senator Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs, and United States Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), Vice Chair of the Committee, released the following statement on the confirmation of Roslyn Toso. as Director of the Indian Health Service (IHS) at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
“Dedicated and long-serving leadership in India’s health services is essential to the mission.” Chairman Schatz said. “Ms. Tso will lead the service with distinction, qualifications, willingness to serve India and other H.H.S. The IHS Director is the department’s top, Senate-confirmed, federal health authority responsible for setting IHS health care policy, respecting tribal sovereignty, and carrying out IHS’s mission to improve health outcomes in Indian Country. Schatz and Murkowski chaired Tso’s nomination committee in July..
