A total of 161 names are proudly listed on the newly renovated Veterans Memorial bronze plaques at the corner of First and Maple streets. The names are a heavy reminder of the Manistee County men who died serving their country.
Listed on the monument are those killed from Manistee County during the Civil War, the Spanish-American War, World War I, World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. It was an emotional ceremony yesterday afternoon when more than 120 people gathered to celebrate the restored memorial.

County Fair
An exciting afternoon and evening program featuring both grass-burner and gas-burner competition makes Sept. 1 one of the best days of the Manistee County Fair, which runs from Aug. 29 to Sept. 3 at the Onekama Fairgrounds. The afternoon program begins with a grand parade, including all those interested in moving.
Final plans for preparation
Triginta Club by JC Penney Co. And he’s busy making the final plans and preparations for the Manistee Beach and Ski Shop. The date chosen for this event is August 23rd at 8pm in the school gym. Admission is $1.

Stamp reminder
County Ration Administrator Leon Kubaki today reminded Manistee County residents that the deadline to use War Ration Book Stamps Six and Seven is a week from today.
