Oh, that was awesome. It was incredibly validating and proved that there is a customer who expects a product like this from me – and there is a customer at every market level and in every size category. That was really, really incredibly reassuring.
The collaboration was planned to be very small, but in the process of creating the product, it has grown significantly. So on the back of it, I think, “Well, the market is probably more interesting and open today to me, to what I’m saying and what I’m doing than it was when I left six years ago.” “
Both Jodie Turner-Smith and Tessa Thompson wore your look at the Venice Film Festival. (Even Jodi He is wearing two.) How does it feel to get red carpet credits again?
I love those girls with all my heart. I love being in LA; It is the proximity to them. What I especially admire about what those women do on the mats is that Harbison puts a woman in front of so many people, right away. Jodi is strong, intelligent, athletic, beautiful, calm, highly talented and confident – and that epitomizes the Harbison woman. So whether it’s her, Cynthia Erivo, Tessa Thompson…I’m going to put clothes on all these women and walk these carpets, so everybody can see it. [them and say]”hang on. That’s it. What does Harbison mean?” I like it.
I think it’s good to assume that you want to Each I can’t help but notice that all three of the women you mentioned are black. Does that add any extra layers of meaning to you?
Well, I here you go With black women because those were the first images of beauty I saw. They were my mothers, grandmothers, aunts. How they moved in clothes, how they approached beauty and makeup, how they were important and strong women, but also incredibly graceful, and beautiful and twisted. I start there when I think about women and feminism.
So, with this set, I started there too. The palette, inspirations, stories and memories I fold into these clothes are the memories of those women. For every woman, and every man, and every customer. But I want to make it clear that everyone starts they. Although it is for everyone, what is the nucleus they They did in the world – and what they did to me.
What do you hope these next few years look like for HARBISON?
Honestly, I hope the next few years are all about growth. I’m making sure that anyone who wants a piece of this bright world that I’m building can get a piece. And I want that expansion to include, like I said, menswear, but also accessories, beauty, home, what have you. I’m really a product kid! I love beautiful things, and I want beautiful things to come from this brand and reach those who need those beautiful things. Because I don’t play games. No games!
