Fort Walton Beach, Fla– The Florida Department of Health in Okaloosa County (DOH-Okaloosa) invites anyone who lives or works in Okaloosa County to attend the first Okaloosa County Community Health Improvement Partnership (OCHIP) meeting on September 27. The meeting will be from 9:30. 11:30 a.m. at the Okaloosa County Emergency Operations Center in Niceville on the campus of Northwest Florida State College—90 E. College Blvd. The meeting will also be held through Microsoft Teams.
At the Okaloosa Health Summit on Sept. 8, attendees selected priority public health areas to address specific issues in Okaloosa County and formed community work groups. Selected working groups were Healthy Behaviors, Healthy Children, Healthy Communities and Healthy Mothers and Babies.
The working groups plan to address issues such as infant mortality, substance abuse, mental health and social support. OCHIP’s new working groups mobilize organizations and individuals across the county.
DOH-Okaloosa Health Officer Elizabeth Smith said, “During the Okaloosa Health Summit, it was exciting to see our residents participate in addressing these new priorities. “Everyone is welcome to join one or more working groups where they want to make a difference.”
During the OCHIP meeting, attendees set goals and objectives for how to improve health in selected priority areas. These groups will meet every two months for the next three years and work together to improve health issues.
Those who really want to participate should email HealthyOkaloosa@flhealth.gov.
