HARRISON, Ark. (KY3) – Better Home Care in Harrison sent a supply trailer to Central Florida Tuesday for hurricane victims.
Better Home Care has been working with other community members to collect donations for the past two weeks. Collected canned goods, water and non-food items to help two nursing homes affected by the storm.
“By having my family there, I’m able to figure out where I can help more,” says Megan Stanbrough, owner of Better Home Care. “I met[the family]and they told me that there are two nursing facilities in their town, and they are housing many evacuees.
Stanbrough has a family in Florida without power for several days after the storm; It was also affected by floods.
“They were directly affected by Hurricane Ian. Everyone is doing great. They are trying to get together with their community and help everyone around them,” she said.
Her team at Better Home Care came up with the idea to provide relief through supplies.
“We wanted to help. There were a lot of people affected by Hurricane Ian, a lot of nursing homes were affected,” said Abby Smith of Better Home Care.
Better Home Care loaded a van and U-Haul with the essentials that left for Florida Tuesday morning.
“I got into this business to help people, and I think it’s amazing that we’re able to help people in this area, but we’re also able to help people who are hurting,” Smith said.
Better Home Care hopes to help those affected and encourage others to see how they can help with relief efforts in communities across Central Florida.
“We’ve been so blessed by the surrounding communities, and we’re looking forward to blessing the people here in the nursing homes,” Stanbrough said.
Stanbrough left Tuesday morning with a supply trailer. She expects to arrive in Florida on Wednesday, where she will head directly to the nursing homes to begin distributing supplies.
