Detroit – An unusual yet touching story about a beloved professor looking for a new body. Lawrence Tech University Professor Dr. Scott Schneider had an illness that caused him to use several billboards to find a match.
If you are nearby, you may notice a notice board with a special request 8 miles road and the Lodge Freewayalong with many other places.
“It’s really weird to put your name out there to basically ask for help,” Schneider said. “I have been on the transplant list for two years. So, basically three or four years ago it was discovered to say, ‘Hey, your kidneys are starting to fail.’
In normal dialysis, the physics professor is at least stable. But his sister and her children created the “Kidney4Scott” campaign, and the community, including the Lawrence Tech student body, has been very supportive because he’s popular on campus.
“When I’m here at sporting events, I wear crazy blue hair, blue deli bobbers and stuff,” Schneider said.
One reason students post testimonials is to help their favorite professor and get people to help them.
Outfront Media donated the billboard space to help Schneider in his search, making a total of 6 billboards in Southeast Michigan.
“We bought some time on one of the billboards, but hey, we also have a campaign where they pick a particular story and say, ‘Oh, we want to run with that,'” Schneider said.
In all of this, the professor is optimistic.
“What are my choices,” Schneider said. “I mean, I’m all stressed and anxious and I make people around me suffer. This is no way to live. You will find all the support here, so we will take care of it.
Schneider is looking for type O blood.
