“We are thrilled to have Cam back on our staff,” Szefc said. He has been a big part of our building process here as a student manager, especially in our championship program last year.
“Cam is extremely talented and equipped to fill this position. He is a graduate of Virginia Tech and we are excited to welcome Corey back to serve as Director of Baseball Operations. I am excited to work with him.”
A natural leader and professional, Davis rose through the ranks of Tech’s support staff during his undergraduate years in the program (2019-22), eventually being promoted to chief student manager. Among his main duties he was responsible for leading the Hokies’ student recruitment staff, structuring and facilitating all activities at English Field on practice and match days.
Before the start of his junior year, Davis was promoted to assistant director of baseball operations. Under Haynes’ leadership, Davis has served two stints as acting director of operations, helping with day-to-day coordination with visiting coaches, student-athletes, referees, administrators and staff.
After completing his bachelor’s degree in political science with a concentration in United States history, Davis assumed the role of director of operations for the 2022 NCAA Blacksburg Regional and Blacksburg Super Regional. With diligence and care, he hosted four visiting programs during the postseason while ensuring a smooth tournament process with NCAA site representatives in front of more than 16,000 fans.
Davis will oversee all aspects of the day-to-day operations of Virginia Tech baseball following Haines’ ten years of service to Safek and his staff, including the past five seasons with the Hokies.
“I wish Corey and his family the best going forward,” Szefc said. “He has been a very loyal and professional member of my staff over the last 10 years.
“I’ve worked with Corey more than anyone I’ve worked with in my 32 years in college athletics. To me personally, Corey is a very special person. It’s hard to lose him — he was a great member of our staff.”
