Houghton, Mich -The Michigan Tech football team will host Parkside and Purdue Northwest in the second weekend of a four-game homestand. MTU meets Parkside on Friday (Oct. 14) at 7 p.m. before clashing with Purdue Northwestern at noon on Sunday (Oct. 16).
Fans can catch both games on FloSports as part of a four-year media partnership with the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference that began this fall.
About Rangers
Parkside comes to Houghton with a record of 5-8 overall while going 2-7 in GLIAC play. Most recently, the Rangers dropped weekend home contests, falling 4-0 to Saginaw Valley State on Friday night (Oct. 7) and 1-0 to Ferris State on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 9).
The Rangers struggled offensively last weekend, allowing just one shot on goal against Saginaw Valley State.
Emily Mickelson averaged 0.54 assists per game to lead the GLIC while driving the offense for Parkside, ranking 17th nationally. She ranks 11th nationally with seven rebounds this season, tied for the top spot in the conference.
Goalie Mia Gayton ranks 29th nationally in saves at 6.33 and has 57 saves in nine games.
About pride
Purdue Northwestern holds a GLIAC record of 0-12-1 and is 0-9. The Pride dropped two home contests last weekend, falling to Ferris State 4-0 on Friday (Oct. 7) before coming off a 2-1 win over Saginaw Valley State on Sunday (Oct. 9).
Lauryn Tillmon scored the lone goal of the weekend for the Pride on Senior Day against the Cardinals.
Kasey Pumprin leads the offense for Purdue Northwest with three goals this season.
Goalie Bridget Grady has 6.22 saves per game and is 32nd in the nation with 56 saves per game overall.
About Huskies
Michigan Tech enters its second-straight home weekend with a 2-4-3 GLIAC record of 4-6-3. The Huskies split the weekend, falling to No. 6 Grand Valley State 2-0 on Friday night (Oct. 7) and beating Davenport 2-0 on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 9).
The Black and Gold, who haven’t won since Sept. 9 against Purdue Northwest, had an offensive explosion in Sunday’s matchup, landing 20 shots on 12 targets. Senior midfielder Stephanie Yeager and sophomore forward Julia Pietila scored in the win.
Pietyla totaled 6 shots on goal with three shots on goal, helping the Huskies’ backline help senior goalkeeper Gracie VanLangevelde her sixth shutout of the season. The Spring Lake Michigan native made five saves on the day.
One last thing
The Huskies have been stellar on defense this season, but the conversion on offense in Sunday’s win against Davenport featured the second-highest shooting percentage for the Black and Gold at 12 goals. The top SOG game of the year came in 2018. The Huskies beat Minnesota Duluth by 13 in their season opener.
