Tech placed third at the Illini Invitational

Medina, Ill. — A strong performance from the first grader Shannon Tan, Chiara Hoarder And Anna DongThe Texas Tech women’s golf program finished with a 36-hole score of 20 to place third after day one at the Illini Invitational hosted by the University of Illinois.

The Red Raiders were led by Tan, who shot a career-best 67 in the opening round and a 69 in the second round to put him at -8 overall. The true freshman is tied for seventh for Alabama (-11), three shots behind Sarah Edwards.

Hoarder, the only other Tech player in the top 10, recorded just one bogey in 36 holes of practice on Monday. The sophomore shot rounds of 69 and 68 for a -7 total to sit in a tie for ninth.

High Anna Dong and primary Lauren Zaretsky They also fired back-to-back solid rounds. Dong shot rounds of 69 and 70 to finish the opening two rounds at -5 overall.

Playing as an individual, Zaretsky followed up his opening round of 72 with a career-best round of 67 and sits at -5 for the tournament.

San Jose State enjoys a 36-hole lead of -26 overall. Tech and Alabama are tied for third at -20, followed by Auburn (-19) and defending champion Georgia (-15).

Northwestern drops from third to seventh in solo and is -14 overall, followed by Illinois (-13). Tennessee (-10) and Purdue (-10) are currently tied for ninth, followed by Oklahoma State (-7) and Oregon State (-5).

TCU (-2), Oklahoma (even) and ETSU (+29) round out the 15-team field.

The Red Raiders return to action tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. for the third and final invitational of the Illini. For the shotgun start, Tech will be seeded 1-3 and tied with San Jose State and Kentucky.
