Classic Fashion is a supplier to major brands such as Adidas, JCPenney, Tommy Hilfiger and American Eagle. Now, the new strategy is to support American manufacturing facilities. This is a new step. The cut-and-sew facility in Santa Ana will create 125 jobs now and management projects an additional 225 people will work at the facility by 2027.
Classic Fashion Chairman and Managing Director Sanal Kumar said: “We are proud to be a Walmart supplier as Classic Fashion builds our manufacturing facility in the United States. Classic Fashion is proud to highlight our amazing American manufacturing staff and the local community here in Santa Ana as we continue to build on 20 years of success.
Walmart responded: “Walmart is proud to work with Classic Fashion, which soon makes its best products right here in America. Investing in local manufacturing creates American jobs, helps grow small businesses and benefits communities like Santa Ana.” We are thrilled to offer classic fashion American-made apparel exclusively in our stores,” said Jason Fremstad, Walmart SVP of Supplier Development and Sourcing.
While most chain stores offer fashion off-shore, Walmart’s efforts to bring more products home is paying off. Customer Apparel is proud to offer local fashion and the knowledge that it creates jobs and supports the American economy. I remember Sam Walton bringing towels to meetings. They were going to be made in the US and he talked about his efforts to bring more production home.
Classic Fashions Established in 2003, it is today the largest manufacturer in the Middle East and Africa with over 30,000 employees, 16,000 machines and the capacity to produce 500,000 to 550,000 garments in 200 different styles. In fiscal year 2021, the company had revenue of $802 million.
Postscript: It’s exciting news that a major manufacturer is returning to the US to produce fashion apparel for Walmart. It is an example that other providers should follow. When we face a recession, perhaps early next year, the need to create jobs will be greater. Companies like Walmart benefit from local production because they can quickly produce new styles and create new fashion trends quickly and successfully.
