Lou Kennedy, CEO of West Columbia’s Nephron Pharmaceuticals, is the 2023 honoree for the McNair Lectures on the American South, the South Carolina College of Arts and Sciences’ Institute for Southern Studies announced Tuesday.
Kennedy will be interviewed live in front of an audience for a podcast accompanying the event on Wednesday, March 1 at 6 p.m. in the USC Law School’s Karen J. Williams Courtroom, according to a news release. The interview will be conducted by Mark Smith, Director of the Institute.
“I can think of no one more deserving and fitting for this honor than Lou Kennedy,” Smith said. “I look forward to discussing what it takes to succeed in business, especially after this once-in-a-lifetime outbreak at a life sciences company, where the University’s alumni have proudly supported Carolina and its causes for many years,” he said.
Each year, the Institute for Southern Studies hosts the McNair Colloquium on the American South. Made possible by the generosity of the state’s late governor, Robert McNair, McNair’s lectures are a live podcast interview celebrating people who have made lasting and significant contributions to the American South.
They were filmed in front of an audience and broadcast on the Institute’s highly successful Southern podcast series.
“I am grateful to be recognized by the university I love, and I look forward to a wonderful conversation with Dr. Smith and the audience about the great progress South Carolina is making,” Kennedy said in the release. “Nephron is a source of pride for me and I use many of the lessons I learned growing up in the American South and working as CEO in the Carolinas every day.
