“In my heart, like many designers, we all have the idea of starting our own collection. For me, for a while, it felt far from being a reality,” said Cross, who has a bachelor’s degree in art. degree in apparel and textile design from Michigan State University. “I’ve always been afraid to do this. Looking back, people often think too big and broad at first, instead of thinking small and attacking one step at a time. It was really something I couldn’t do. I know it’s my job every day.”

Cross through her website now offers 7-10 pieces, short and long dresses in black and white, green, brown and multi-colored as well as a pair of shirts.

Cross has not yet disclosed the start-up costs or revenue from her business.

That includes running a website, shipping, production and marketing, Cross said. According to NerdWallet research, clothing lines can bring in $24,000-$140,000 in their first year.
