Fast fashion for men: a lesser known evil

Argument between the company and the consumer to account for the rapid change in fashion. But when neither is willing to make a mistake, something has to give. In this case, it is the earth.

When we criticize each other’s choice to buy or not buy fast fashion; To buy second hand, or not to buy; Fast fashion will continue to spread and produce, and the environment will continue to bear the consequences.

A small but full market

The majority of consumers of fast fashion are women. Marketing activities are often targeted towards them, most of the inventory is womenswear, and generally women’s fashion is a bigger market than men’s fashion.

But without a doubt, male fast fashion consumers are also prevalent, creating an entirely new target market for these companies. Men’s fast fashion is a new opportunity for more products, more sales and more money.

Even now, it’s a small sector, and men’s fast fashion has contributed to the unmistakable rise of giants like Shin. Over the past five years, Shin’s revenue has increased by 2,465%

This astronomical shift is due to social media and influencer marketing efforts, but Shayne opened up their brand to a new gender and no doubt played a big role in the increase in sales.

The same book is just a different page.

Despite the difference in style and the extent of the damage, men’s and women’s fast fashion are both environmental destroyers. A highly responsive supply chain operates beyond consumer demand, resulting in excess products and materials that pollute the earth.

Overproduction and overconsumption are two of humanity’s greatest downfalls. As landfills expand, once-fresh water rivers are polluted, and more carbon dioxide and chemicals enter the air, depleting oxygen, our ecosystems are suffering.

By supporting fast fashion businesses, we push these actions; We bring destruction, despair, and ultimately destruction. Our only defense against these consequences on an individual level is to buy second hand. Our planet can no longer produce new clothes.

Whether we embrace the materialistic tendencies of our society or live in ignorance and denial, there is work to be done. The work that our earth most needs us to do; Despite our many differences in views, identities, economic status or geographical location, we have a responsibility to do all we can to save our planet.
