Talking about style, trends, cash and all their intricacies, Fashionphile’s 2022 Super Luxury Resale Report reveals the top five trends set to dominate the fashion industry in 2023.
This year’s retrospective report from one of the biggest players in luxury resale is proof of which trends are the hottest and why – which can influence consumers’ investment decisions in a turbulent economy.
“Inflation remains at the top of the mind, and as retail prices rise to historic highs, resale prices continue to rise sharply,” he says, citing last year’s highest inflation figure since the 1980s. “Not only is this a good time to sell those investments that have been sitting in your closet, but resale is a great place to save your money in ultra-luxury investments.”
For 2023, here are the five trends that will rule us all.

1. The collaborative wave is on.
Collaborations constantly surprise us, often allowing us to enjoy an unexpected fusion of forces, like Crocs teaming up with Balenciaga to create an awkward hybrid shoe, or a high-profile partnership with Tiffany & Co. for streetwear and timeless jewelry.
Naturally, the latest collaborations remain high in demand, as is the fashion facility. Whether it’s Gucci x Balenciaga or Fendi x Versace, the luxury resale company has seen a 193% increase in searches for collaborative pieces across the board.
Collaboration is nothing new in fashion, but thanks to Virgil Abloh’s massive renaissance, it’s riding a new wave that continues. Entering into partnerships with brands like Rimowa and Nike, the late genius has ushered in a new era in fashion, not just with his designs, but with his open-minded approach to collaboration.
2. Y2K is still here to stay.
Fashionphile’s report only confirms what we’ve seen on the latest runways this season, from Blumarine to Versace. The millennials among us are experiencing déjà vu on a daily basis as fashion continues to channel 2000s glamor.
Y2K fashion is waiting for its seat on the throne, according to fashion trends. Thongs peeking out from underpants. Bikini tops are being worn with tank tops. And beyond fashion, Y2K accessories are having their own crack resurgence.
Think Louis Vuitton’s colorful Takashi Murakami bags and crescent bags, or a scene from “Sex and the City” Fendi Baguette has increased search interest by 101% according to Fashionfil. Christian Dior’s saddle bag, meanwhile, saw a 97% increase in searches. The Prada reissue shoulder bag saw the biggest increase in search demand, up 110% in 2022 from 2021.

“Prada’s stunning rendition of 2000s-era nylon bags sparked the rhinestone craze, prompting many luxury brands to revisit past staples and tap into the Y2K scene,” the report says.
3. New bags are coming hot for 2023.
Fashionphile predicts the hottest bags for 2023, a mix of shopping totes, hobos and shoulder bags – and go beyond the Prada, Fendi and Dior handbags that hit red-fever last year.
If you want to be right on trend, keep your eye on the Chanel Quilted 22, Fendi Fendigraphy hobo, Prada Symbole Tote, Bottega Veneta Jodie hobo, Louis Vuitton Multicolor Speedy, Balenciaga Le Cagole shoulder bag and Saint Laurent Icare Maxi Shopping Tote.
For those eager to break out of the trend cycle, Hermès and Chanel remain widely sought-after investment pieces. Fashionphile sold 113% more Hermes and 70% more Chanel by 2022.
According to the report, Hermès retains its impressive investment value, with the average sale price of a Birkin increasing by 64% since 2019.
4. Gems are getting a facelift.
These are not the pearls worn on flapper dresses, rather than the tiny necklaces that were popular in the 1950s. Today’s gem revival is proud to combine their wealth with other gems and metals, such as pearls set in metal chains or onyx rings.
According to the luxury resale company, sales for pearl earrings alone have risen 255 percent since 2020.
“As a historically fraught piece of jewelry, gems are now making their way onto the mainstream market and are gaining popularity among all genders—in part, with influential figures like Harry Styles using the fashion accessory to break down gender stereotypes,” the report says.
5. Dopamine Dressing Hits the Groove.
Whether it’s the bright tangerine we saw in New York or the electric lime green of Fendi in Milan, “wearing dopamine” continues. In the post-pandemic world, wearing bright and sunny colors is a popular way to find joy in fashion.
Neutral palettes and capsule wardrobes may have been popular before. Now, color, you can wear it anywhere, it is in – and not only in clothes. Fashionphile found caught up in accessorizing this trend, where purple handbags are the most sought after, blue watches are the best and rose-gold is the winner in jewelry.
Coined by fashion psychologist Dr. Dawn Karen in her book Dress Your Best Life, Dopamine is all about using your clothes to boost your mood. Where a delicious meal can bring you a bright smile, colorful clothes can bring you a good mood or “happy hormone”.
