My condolences to anyone at Microsoft who has been tipped off about a possible major layoff. About 5 percent of the tech giant’s workforce is thought to be affected, meaning around 10,000 people could lose their jobs. Microsoft is the latest tech giant to cut thousands of jobs in recent months, following layoffs at the likes of Meta and Amazon.

In lighter news, Samsung is making more parts and manuals available through iFixit, allowing DIY repairers to fix Galaxy S22 devices a year after launch. So when the upcoming Galaxy S23 lineup launches in February, if your Galaxy S22 is on the grid, you have the option of trying to repair it yourself instead of upgrading your device (repair shops will of course remain an option).

Finally, Apple reportedly shelved plans to release a pair of lightweight augmented reality glasses due to “technical challenges.” Its mixed reality headset (offers both AR And (VR) is still believed to be on the way this year, but these soft AR-only glasses are now unlikely to meet their 2025 target launch date.

For now, here’s a silly tweet to start your day (don’t worry, it’s not actually “sensitive content” as the moderator’s comment suggests).

Stay tuned on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 as we continue to update this list with the most important news today.
