The University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s search for a national vice chancellor of business and finance continues on Oct. 13 with a fourth round of interviews.

The next candidate is Matthew A. Skinner, senior associate vice president and deputy chief financial officer at Washington State University. He will be on campus on October 13.

Skinner has 19 years of higher education experience in budget, planning, finance and accounting functions. He joined the university as a budget officer in 2003 and has continued to hold increasing leadership responsibilities.

Duties in his current role include serving as second-in-command to the Chief Financial Officer in creating and implementing strategic financial and facilities plans for the Washington State University system. He leads a team of seven direct reports and 150 professionals and supports and advises all of the university’s financial and administrative portfolios.

He successfully led campus efforts to develop an integrated forecast and financial plan to overcome campus-related revenue losses. covid-19 pandemic; Led the deployment of Workday, a system that supports financial, HR, payroll and post-award support management. and helped develop a plan to balance Washington State’s athletic operations budget.

A certified public accountant, Skinner earned a Bachelor of Science (Business) from the University of Idaho in 2000, and a Master of Business Administration from Washington State in 2007.

The Nebraska Vice Chancellor for Business and Finance is the University’s senior business officer and reports to the Chancellor. The position is responsible for overseeing and managing the university’s $1.2 billion operating budget, all financial and administrative services, adherence to university policies, and state and federal laws.

The Vice Chancellor directs operational activities related to the University’s physical facilities and grounds, locations around Nebraska, University Police, parking and transportation services, human resources, and other business services.

The position serves on the Chancellor’s Executive Leadership Team and is a member of the Chancellor’s Extended Cabinet. Learn more about the location and its activities.

Skinner and the other finalists were selected through a nationwide search. A search advisory committee chaired by College of Law Dean Richard Moberly assisted in the search. The committee, which includes representation from students, faculty, staff and the Advanced-Lincoln community, includes:

  • Hasan Ramzah, Assistant Vice Chancellor, Police Chief;
  • Tyrell Ross, Director of Finance and Budget, College of Business
