Columbus, Ga. (WTVM) – Frequent business break-ins in downtown Columbus are starting to cost the owners money.

Carolyn Freeman, owner of Simply Carol’s hair salon, said they are dealing with vandals who hit her business four weeks ago.

Freeman began with derogatory words painted on walls. She said this was her first time in the building in six years.

Carolyn Freeman The devastation started with broken windows. The business next door had their windows smashed first, and a week later, the back window was smashed.

“It’s going on from one week to the next because my window was broken one day last week, but like I said, we saw the young man doing the writing on the video. wall,” says Carolyn Freeman

These thugs not only broke windows but also painted obscene pictures and sprayed them on all the three nearby businesses. I spoke to another business owner who did not want to be identified. But anyone who does this should be ashamed, she says.

“Like I said, I don’t see why I should go around trying to make kids feel good or think they’re brave because they’re definitely not.”

With four weeks of injury, Freeman said she had to spend money she never thought possible. Freeman said she was spending her money and it was becoming scary.

“At this point, now Leary is getting scared because you know it’s getting worse. You never know what will happen next. You know we can go out and get anything,” Freeman said

The official, in this case, says that he will try his best to protect that area most of the time. However, if you are caught destroying property, you could find yourself in jail and face 1 to 10 years on a charge of criminal trespass to property. In prison, plus fines.
