Fashion 4 Development’s tagline, “Giving back is the new luxury”, goes hand in hand with its mission and message to promote positive social change. Fashion 4 Development (F4D) is a global private sector platform created to support the United Nations Millennium Development Goals and “Every Woman, Every Child”. Recently, F4D announced several new initiatives to accelerate sustainability, empower women, and promote social and economic development in the fashion industry. The announcement follows a week of social impact events held by F4D, including the 2nd Annual Sustainable Goals Party, 10th Annual First Ladies’ Luncheon and Film Screening in partnership with Human Arm.
The party featured a live performance by Grammy Award winner Dionne Warwick. F4D organizers were Earthday Network President Kathleen Rogers, film producer Michael Simkin, environmentalist Dr. Marcelo Carvalho de Andrade, financier Mickey Shapiro and TV personality Nigel Barker. Honorable agents of change awards were presented at the banquet, including Hugh Evans and Simon Moss of Global Citizen, Yunus Dogan of Texas Biotech, Odessa Ra, Navalny Filmmaker, Richard Kane of Verjet and Her Royal Highness Sheikha Moza Bint. At the 10th Annual First Ladies’ Luncheon, the crowd was treated to a special performance by artist Sirintip, who sang a song about climate change called “Carbon.” A Bangkok-born singer, producer, and multi-modal artist, Karbon sees it as a call to action for herself as much as her listeners. F4D’s five main initiatives aim to preserve culture, empower women and children, and promote environmental sustainability. The initiatives include:
Musicians in a free keyThis global initiative is for artists of all countries to come together to support refugees around the world. The initiative was created by entertainment attorney Michael Shapiro, award-winning songwriter Diane Warren and musician Mick Fleetwood, and F4D’s Evie Evangelou. A live performance by Dionne Warwick was announced at F4D’s 2nd Annual Sustainable Goals Invitational. The initiative now invites top international artists to record Diane Warren’s new song “Free” in their native language. It will be released in an album from various countries that aims to spark discussion about our humanitarian refugee crisis.
Goodwill ambassador for cultural preservationF4D appoints Lola Tilieva, founder of the Human Kind Institute, as its new Goodwill Ambassador. According to the organization, she works to preserve cultural ties and the beauty of cultures around the world through food, fashion and art. Tiliyeva uses film, art exhibitions and fashion shows to display coffee table books as art installations and will embark on a world tour at the La Maison de l’Uzbekistan gallery in Paris.
F4D Goodwill AmbassadorEslaug Magnusdottir, founder and CEO of Katla, will join F4D as a goodwill ambassador. Aslag develops a new business model for the fashion industry. Katla and F4D will join forces to create a comprehensive research project in collaboration with the International Business Center in Geneva. They aim to implement a model for buyers and suppliers in the fashion industry that is more profitable, sustainable and reduces overproduction, as well as increasing the economic inclusion and growth of women in the industry.
SDG Youth Goodwill Project: BrieLee is the co-founder of Chiffon Co. Shiffon Co is a jewelry brand that uses a single product strategy and donates proceeds to support six women-founded companies around the world. BrieLee has been named F4D’s SDG Youth Goodwill Ambassador and mentors college entrepreneurs on building sustainable companies from the ground up.
Human Institute Partnership: F4D has also partnered with the HumanKid Institute to promote exhibitions, installations, film and audio screenings, cutting-edge technologies and educational programs. All these objectives are to ‘improve communication and promote general education.
