A press release from the Arcata Police Department:
In the year On 10/8/2022 at 11:57 am, Arcata Police Department officers responded to Mad River Community Hospital for a report of a bomb threat.
Arcata Communications was able to quickly identify the caller as they responded to secure the hospital, which was placed on their protocol lockdown. The caller knew Arcata Police Department Behavioral Health Help from their previous interactions with them. As a result of these early contacts with Arcata police officers, it was quickly determined that there was no threat to the hospital or the community.
Once on the scene, the duty supervisor of the hospital was contacted and advised of the situation and they canceled the lockdown.
APD officers, assisted by a Cal Poly Police Department officer who had contact with the subject, responded to the residence to conduct a welfare check and assist with any potential mental health crisis. Despite repeated attempts by officers to contact the subject and provide assistance, they did not leave the residence or interact with authorities.
The Arcata Police Department’s Community Outreach Team will continue to monitor social service organizations in the region to provide any assistance a member of the community may need.
