The fashion industry is notorious for exploiting natural resources and polluting the environment through mindless use of unsustainable materials such as polyester and premature replacements. The apparel industry is the world’s second largest contributor to 10% of global carbon emissions, after oil.

Starting with our education system will go a long way to understanding climate change and perhaps how human knowledge can control it. A study found that sustainability should be included in the curriculum because it teaches students about environmental issues and provides them with skills they can use in future careers that involve sustainability issues.

A big step towards sustainable development.

It is important to understand that sustainability is not only required in the fashion industry. It should be part and parcel of all economic and cultural activities. But it’s also important to recognize that fashion can seriously harm nature because of the industry’s $0.6 trillion market value.

Ways to make sustainability part of the curriculum:

  • Making a conscious effort to incorporate sustainable development into your creative work.
  • Educate yourself on how to be more sustainable by reading books or articles on the subject.
  • Start a discussion group around sustainability-related topics in your class or classroom, and that can lead to interesting projects.

Working on a basic level.

We need to make sure our youth are educated about sustainability and climate change. If we don’t do this, problems related to resource depletion, global warming and waste disposal are bound to get worse in the future. The current generation has a great opportunity to improve the world, but they need more support from schools and parents if they are to be successful. Schools should be where young people learn about sustainable fashion and how their choices affect the planet. Schools and colleges should experiment as they span the formative years of students and explore subjects that interest them.

If students focus on finding alternatives to popular pop culture, they may be able to change their perceptions of fashion. Sustainability metrics can become showbiz pillars with the right motivation. This is only possible at a basic level because once a person enters the dirty market, it becomes difficult to change the business as usual. But the institutions are apt to inspire a revolution for the better in the sector.

Knowledge-based practice and social awareness, with artistic expression.

In the last decade, the interest in sustainability has been growing. It’s a concept that aims to create and sell products with minimal environmental impact. This approach to fashion education promotes knowledge-based practice, social awareness and artistic expression, giving students an understanding of who they are and what surrounds them, including sustainability in a variety of contexts such as business. Profit makers’ models must evolve and adapt to the changing needs of customers.

When people have a goal to achieve, it reflects on the quality of research because the goal has no ambiguity or gaps. The trends don’t grind to be cosmetically popular but make a “fashion statement” in the truest sense. This approach tries to clarify what is important to emerging designers and how important their role is in the ecological equation.

Sustainability has become imperative.

While there are many reasons why sustainability should be given to international educational institutions, let’s discuss these important points.

  • Students need to learn about sustainability because the future of their jobs and the world depends on understanding how it can help bring about a more livable and ‘green’ planet. .
  • The first step in making sustainability a regular part of the curriculum in schools is to bring the culture into the mainstream economy. This is because we no longer have the option of ignoring environmental issues or hoping they will go away on their own; They don’t!
  • As the world becomes more and more globalized, it is becoming more and more important to consider how to live a sustainable lifestyle. Sustainability is not just about banning plastics, but also planning to reduce the overall carbon footprint.

We must start acting now to ensure that future generations have access to clean water and food. This can be achieved through simple changes in our daily habits such as the 5Rs:

  • Rejection of consumerism
  • Reduce waste
  • Reuse proprietary products
  • Regeneration of viable materials and
  • Recycling of used items.
  • Revitalizing the planet’s ecosystem

Create a foundation for a sustainable world.

Fashion is a global industry that influences all aspects of our daily lives. It has been growing rapidly over the past few decades and will continue to do so in the coming years, especially considering its huge potential for innovation and creativity. As such, it helps us better understand ourselves as individuals and consumers as we express ourselves through the clothes we wear. Moreover, trends in this field allow us to break free from societal constraints.

Sustainable fashion is a field of study with diverse applications in various industries such as apparel design and retail. However, it can encourage consumers to buy goods produced by ethical producers who are committed to protecting the safety of their workers and the environment through sustainable production methods.

Summary

Sustainability is an important concept that should be embedded in the education system. This enables students to understand the importance of protecting our environment and their role as responsible citizens. It’s time we start teaching sustainability from childhood to create a better future for our younger generations and give them the gift of a healthy life!

One positive step towards this is the ‘DesignAbility’ programme, which has been launched by some schools of design college.
