The London Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2023 show has come to an end and as always, there are a number of key trends that will be making their way across the various shows. From famous names like JW Anderson and Molly Goddard to designers like Masha Popova and Lula Laura, this season at LFW saw a number of designers drawing inspiration from similar themes.

From motorsport to metallics, SS23 saw the resurgence of a number of core trends, which were witnessed on multiple runways and presentations, and we’ve compiled an overview of each below. Aside from Nessie Dojaka’s cut-out dresses with Caroline Vito’s figure-hugging silhouettes or Simone Rocha’s almost Molly Goddard tulle-laden ensembles, we saw plenty of similarities on the runway. It appears everywhere.

Read on to learn more about the six key trends we noticed at LFW this season.

Motor sports

With both Ankuta Sarka’s presentation and David Koma’s outdoor runway alongside Lula Laura’s film show, the motorsports trend seems to be going nowhere fast. Shown in a striking red, black, blue and orange color palette, the trend typically comes in the form of the sought-after motorcycle jacket, and has since evolved into race-style prints, fusions between feminine and masculine silhouettes and form-fitting materials.

Metals and holographics

All that glitters seems to be silver now. It’s one color that’s seen a lot of looks on the LFW runway, and no matter what form it takes, it’s clear that silver is here to stay. Whether through Edward Crutchley’s chrome heels or David Koma’s holographic jackets and boots, this season saw a number of shows featuring metallic, glitter and silver accents. After being taken to the discos of our childhood, the new color palette seems like a way to introduce a little more fun and playfulness, be it through shoes, accessories or statement pieces.

Female grunge

Once reserved for baggy, oversized pants, the understated trend has found a new home in the women’s grange. Mixing old-school punk with feminism and sexiness, grunge is a style that’s recently had a resurgence. Confirmed through the runways of KNWLS, Masha Popova, Chopova Lowena and Dilara Findikoglu, the trend can be seen in reworked and printed jeans, cropped, oversized silhouettes and punk-inspired hairstyles.

The beads are back

Texture took center stage at LFW this season, with many designers opting for heavy beads, pearls, pearls and glassware to take their collections to the next level. Included on that list was Phoebe, whose models walked the runway alongside Susan Fang in beaded dresses and skirts, their designs complemented by chunky heels and mirrored bags, and finally, the poster girl, her petite tops accessorized with beaded earrings and necklaces.

Layering is key

If there’s one thing we’ve learned this LFW season, it’s that no amount of layers is too much. There is simply no such thing. We have Simone Rocha and Molly Goddard to thank for that, as each designer’s tulle-based designs were seen on the runway paired with baggy jeans, oversized bomber jackets and skirts. David Koma’s show followed, with models strutting down the runway in over-the-knee boots paired with sheer trousers and skirts.

Sex sells, and everyone is selling it.

The final trend may be the most important from the LFW SS23 show: everyone and everything is sexy now. Regardless of height, body type or what you wear, there were many designers who showed us that sex is simply a state of mind. From Caroline Vito’s curvaceous embroidered dresses to Sinead O’Dwyer’s body-hugging runway, we’ve seen images featuring a wide range of fabrics, cuts and shapes and worn by many different bodies. at last.
