| FAYETTEVILLE – Gracelyn Caplener, Ashtyn Mullinax and Lauren Turner were recently hired by a partnership between the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) and the Arkansas Rural Health Partnership to help people navigate the health care system in Monroe County.
As community health workers, Kaplaner, Mullinax and Turner are available to answer basic health care questions and provide education and resources to the public. Community health workers work in their communities to help people get the care they need, answer important questions about health care, such as when a person should see a doctor, and provide information about vaccinations.
“We are thrilled to be working with Gracelyn, Ashtin and Lauren to provide a new resource for the people of Monroe County as we enter the final phase of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Associate Director Stephanie Krueger. Community Programs in the UAMS Office of Community Health and Research. “We are also excited to work with the Arkansas Partnership for Rural Health and the community of Monroe County to create better health conditions for all people in Arkansas.”

The UAMS Northwest Regional Campus includes 288 medical, pharmacy, nursing and health professions students, 64 medical and pharmacy residents, two sports medicine fellows and 1,000 community-based faculty. The campus has a student-run clinic and nine clinics including physical, occupational and speech therapy. Faculty conducts research to reduce health disparities.
