blacksburg – Ringing in the start of the new season, Virginia Tech men’s basketball held its preseason press conference Tuesday. Read below what the head coach Mike Young And three players had to speak.

Head coach Mike Young

The ups and downs of last year and how it changed his outlook as a head coach:
“I don’t know if anything has necessarily changed, but I know there’s always ups and downs, especially in a 35-game season. You know, you hang in there and keep showing up. That team just kept showing up. Practice well. I remember it like it was yesterday: 10-10, 2.” “We were -7 in the ACC and the world was collapsing around me, but we fought back two games and got a little wind under our sails. The type of team we all knew we could be.”

In his team this year and the camaraderie he has seen so far:
“There seems to be good chemistry among the team. The new guys have come into the room. We’re still figuring out a lot of things. We’ve got five new guys, but the core team is back. And it is. A really strong core team. Justin [Mutts] And Hunter [Cattoor]. Sean Pedulla It is really coming into its own and I would argue that the process started last year. Darius Maddox It just keeps getting better. So, we’re excited about Blacksburg.

in the future Justin Mutts

When it is taggedMike Young Man’ and what it means to him to be considered a head coach:
“It means the world to me just to be in an environment and a culture where there’s a level of trust in me, and not just for me, but for all of my teammates, it just makes you keep working hard. That’s when you step on the floor, when you’re playing for that coach, you just know that he trusts you to make the best decisions.” Because of this, you also believe in yourself more.

Guard Hunter Cator

The team has raised the bar for what they want to achieve this season, building on last year’s success:
“I think we’ve always had that standard. I think going into the year, we want to be the best team we can be and achieve everything we can. We’ve hit our ups and downs all year.” But at the end of the day, we never back down from what our goal was. So once we won the ACC championship, it might have been a shock to everybody, but it wasn’t a shock to us. I felt like we couldn’t win it. I felt like we were going to win it from Day 1. I think the level is trying to win every day, and the past happens.

Guard Sean Pedulla

The difference between coming off the bench and starting and how he was with his teammates Darius Maddox:
“Until Darius [Maddox] And I, we’ve had a lot of conversations about our roles over the past year. I remember going into games knowing that we had to score a little bit more in certain games. Therefore, we did not want to shoot. And that’s more of the same for the upcoming season, because we’ll have bigger roles. But we realized that we have to defend for a long time in these big roles, play without offense, get guys open, things like that. So we’ve both had those conversations and are looking forward to the opportunities that will come this year.
