Even if you don’t get a package stolen, chances are good that someone in your small circle of friends will snatch a delivery from your doorstep. The police told me that the bad guys followed delivery trucks to the neighborhood, waited for the driver to drop something off, ran to the porch, stole the item, and disappeared as fast as they got there.

But it’s a crime you can help prevent.

It starts when you submit your order. If you’re ordering something for Christmas, there’s no rush. Ordering three small items on Amazon gives me the choice of weekday and weekend delivery. If I choose this, Amazon gives me $2.25 in digital credits that I can use to buy digital music, movies, Kindle books, and Prime movie rentals.

To avoid purchases being left on your doorstep, you can have packages delivered to your work address if you are approved. Or, to Amazon Lock. These are available in some businesses. You’ll get a code when the item arrives, and scan it at the locker when you get there to pick it up.

Amazon Home Delivery is available at many locations. You will need a garage door opener and a camera. When the delivery driver arrives, they open the garage, put the items in, and then close the door behind them.

Track the item on your phone. You’ll often be notified when the delivery truck is a few minutes away so you can call a neighbor to pick it up.

If you see a thief on a security camera, share it on social media and with the police. Contact Amazon if you have a stolen item. His AZ warranty covers theft of most items. But if the order is shipped and sold by a third-party seller, you might be out of luck.
