Paris Fashion Week seems to be in full swing – and the Saint Laurent show is always a touch of Parisian chic, under the twinkling lights of the Eiffel Tower every year. This season, the label adopted a more intimate approach than in previous chapters, and gathered inspiration directly from the archives, in an incredibly stylish way. Here’s everything you need to know about Saint Laurent’s Spring 2023 show.

The show is inspired by home codes

If there was one element that defined Saint Laurent’s entire Spring 2023 collection, it was the silky, tubular hood that accompanied every single look. According to the fashion house, the image has appeared repeatedly in the archive, from the chiffon dresses created in collaboration with Claude Lalanne in 1969 to the delicate fabric hats of the label’s 1985 haute couture collection. for its namesake brand in the fall of 2002. It is probably best known for being associated with the “Captuccino” pieces of the mid-1980s. The chic addition is definitely an iconic look that’s been around in pop culture for years, beyond the confines of Saint Laurent (think: Grace Jones and Martha Graham).

The new picture is bigger and bolder.

Yves Saint Laurent is remembered for many things, but especially for the creation of the Le Smoking tuxedo dress for women in 1966. The slim, lean ensemble that has revolutionized the fashion industry for years. This season, we see a bold new take on the silhouette of the suit by creative director Anthony Vaccarello. The brand brings pajama-like softwear with lush leathers, metal cuffs and sunglasses. Plus, like Studio 54 Redux, with oversized coats, floor-sweeping wide leather jackets, cropped jersey wrap tops, and chunky column skirts. But most of all, it felt like a new outfit for a new era at Saint Laurent: a big, powerful, strong outfit. The message? Don’t leave home without big shoulders, big earrings, and especially big hoods to hide behind.

If there were any doubts about Anthony Vaccarello being on his iconic ’80s records, there was ample proof in the off-kilter color schemes that felt otherworldly, contrasted with this season’s commitment to stark blacks and muted neutrals. Sure, there were basic colors, but the clothes came to life in wonderfully muted lights. Think: rich burgundy leather jackets layered over saffron-colored column jersey dresses that float to the floor as you move. Egg whites, true olive greens, and wonderfully crunchy chocolate brownies are truly rich.

The setting was spectacular, and it was star-studded.

Saint Laurent’s performances take place every season under the spectacular lights of the Eiffel Tower. Once again, Spring 2023 featured twinkling lights of the tower, a sculpture of the brand in the local fountain, and many front-row stars, including Hailey Bieber, Zoe Kravitz, Amber Valletta, Kate Moss, Shalom Harlow, Juergen Teller, and more.
