UMass students share their views on fashion – Amherst Wire

The question we often ask ourselves is whether we have a style or not or if we really understand fashion. But what exactly is fashion? What determines whether a person has style or not? After talking to various students around campus, I got an answer.

Danielle is into comfortable streetwear style. She believes that accessories make clothes and are the most important part. With the latest fall fashion, Danielle plans to wear turtlenecks and colorful jackets to stay stylish in the cold weather.

Wole described his style based on how he felt that day and generally viewed it as a reflection of a person’s personality. On the day we spoke, he was giving off a bright orange look to match his bright and energetic mood when he woke up.

Sam doesn’t like to fit their style into one word. Everyone who feels good on them believes that it is a good dress. Sam sees fashion as the image created by the choice of clothing.

Urbina describes her style as comfortable and relaxed, yet making a statement. She believes that the top is always the most important part of the outfit and so she focuses on the statement aspect of her outfit.

Nora likes the idea of ​​finding a style that’s fun and comfortable. She is not limited to a certain genre of clothing as she believes in wearing whatever she feels like in that moment. Nora considers the top as the most important part of the outfit and always makes sure that it is her focal point. She also sees jewelry as a big part of fashion and often wears a mix of different rings.

Liz’s style is based on different colors and mediums. She loves earthy tones but also black and chains. She sees her style as something that changes every day. Much of Liz’s fashion influence comes from the queer and black communities. On the day we spoke, she chose to wear a beautiful handmade dress and socks. All the conversations I’ve had about fashion have led me to the conclusion that there really is no definition of fashion. People try to name it and convince you that you have to dress a certain way to be fashionable, but in reality, there are many opinions about fashion. What is fashionable and what is not, is up to you and no one else.
