Panther offense Trailblazers from day, Schnee dominates with career games
Cedar Falls, Iowa — UNI football got hit with a quick foul and the Panthers never looked back as they roared past the Utah Tech Track Blazers, 41-14 on Saturday afternoon in the UNI-Dome. The Panthers improved to 3-4 on the season following their final non-conference game of the 2022 season.
Quarterback Theo Day He had a career day with 308 passing yards, including three through the air and a career-best four touchdowns. How did it happen?
UNI drove its opening drive for just five plays, finding Monsey on a 44-yard touchdown pass to give the Panthers an early lead. Cook continued UNI’s early lead with a 42-yard field goal on the third possession of the first quarter to give the Panthers a 10-0 lead.
Sapp gave the UNI defense a quick spark early in the second quarter, setting up a 9-yard rushing touchdown by Williams in the third quarter. The Panthers’ defensive back scored his first career touchdown, setting up a 19-yard chip shot field goal from Cook to give the Panthers a 20-0 lead with less than 10 minutes left in the opening half.
After allowing an 11-play scoring drive to Utah Tech, UNI responded with back-to-back touchdown drives to close the second quarter, Day finding Hutson on a 32-yard scoring play, and later Schnee on a quick single play strike, giving the Panthers a 34-7 lead at halftime. He gave them rest.
UNI’s lone score of the second half came on the opening drive of the third quarter, when Day drove nine plays 65 yards and made a one-yard keeper to the goal line. Utah Tech scored a fourth-quarter touchdown on a pass from Boone Abbott to Ricky Johnson, but the Panthers’ defense shut down the Trail Blazers for the rest of the game.
